To extend this topic a bit futher. What about cymbals with tape on them? Here's an example of Terry Bozzio during his (sorry can't help it) Zappa period: http://www.terrybozzio.com/gallery3.html. If you don't like Paiste cymbals Smiley

I've tried it but when I pulled the tape from the cymbal (20'' A custom) ....  Cry.

My question is, why not find cymbals that sound good without tape?  They do exist, especially if you have an endorsement, should be real easy.

I feel the same way with drums and heads. You should be able to find a combo that you like without adding a mess.

I feel the same way.  (once I learned to tune) I have been saying that with the right heads and the right tuning, there's no need for anything else.
