I have rarely been so totally blown away by a performance than the one I saw this week on DVD! You all may know I'm a HUGE fan of the band Journey. In fact I'm a walking encyclopedia of Journey trivia. I belong to only ONE fan club....JOURNEY! The band has had 5 of my favorite drummers driving the bus for them over the years. Prairie Prince, Ansley Dunbar, Steve Smith, Larry London and now Dean Castronovo.
Even with all the hype being about who the lead singer will be, this lastest CD leads me to believe the guy behind the kit could have been the lead singer if he wanted it, and still kept the seat behind the kit! Dean Castronovo can sing! I mean the guy can sing as well as the new lead singer Arnel Pineda and Arnel is one bad dude when it comes to vocals! BUT Arnel CAN'T sing and play drums at the same time! Dean CAN!
If you get a chance, go to Wal-Mart and buy the new Journey two disc set Revelation. There's some great new music on Disc one. Disc two features some Journey classics that have been redone completely with Arnel singing lead. He does and awesome job too! Then theres a bonus DVD that contains concert footage from Journey's recent Las Vegas show introducing Arnel to the public. Well Arnel steps back stage for one song (Mother Father) and Dean Castronovo belts out from behind his massive kit! I was astounded! The man is now my FAVORITE drummer/sing hands down! Bar NONE! No exceptions! Geez! I STILL get goose bumps watching this video! In fact, telling you about it here has made me want to go see it again..... Peace out and Rock on! Oh and Dean...uh Mr. Castronovo? I want your autograph! YOU DA MAN! Wink

Would have to agree. Dean is the second-best singer Journey's ever had, and he sang Mother Father (considered one of the most difficult rock vocals ever) every bit as good as Perry.

Ive seen some brief video footage of him and he seems like hed be fun to hang with. Full of energy. On the video hes playing a set of Premiers that sound real different, Less resonant but rich and punchy. Maybe some resonators no?. Get us some info Journey fan. Larrie Londin lays it down! on Raised on radio.
