Uggghhh....

Figured bass brings back painful memories from freshman theory class.

See, that's the first thing that crossed my mind too.  Figured bass.  That's why I was confused as to why this is called "Nashville" number system.  I thought this had been around for hundreds of years.

Then again, maybe I'm just bitter towards Nashville because they stole my football team...

A very old thread indeed, but I wanted to bring it back because I'll be teaching on the Nashville Number System in the Virtual Classroom tonight @ 8pm (CST) here at the Drummer Cafe. VIP Membership required for this particular class.

Let's use this existing thread to continue the discussion if need be.

Ha! I had to weigh in again because my friend Bob, a longtime Nashville studio drummer, replied to my e-mail with the same comment:

Quote
I know I can count up to five, because I have to check the zeroes on my paycheck every time!

I hate him. I mean I love him, but just not much right now.

Hmm, cool. I never thought it was that recent an innovation - I grew up learning music that way!

It's not new ... been around since the 50's ... but many people don't know about it or understand it, so it's new to them.
