Hi guys, I'm on the hunt for a new hihat. Not the cymbals, just the stand. I've thought about the DW cable hat and haven't spoke with anyone who uses one. I tend to stomp on the hat in a straight 4 pattern, or more. Plus all sorts of other things I do on a hat. I lift my left foot off the hat and play with the ball of my foot. Would the DW cable hat be a good fit for me? I need something solid that is fast, and stays put. Thanks for any help with my search. Price isn't a problem, but pro quality is.

If it doesn't have to be a cable-style hi-hat, I suggest the DW9000 series hi-hat. It's very solid. Should hold up to your stomping with no trouble at all!

The pearl Eliminator stand is pretty rugged. Worth looking at.

I've had real good luck with the Iron Cobra lever glide: http://www.westcoastdrums.com/taircohist.htmlRock-solid, smooth - infinitely adjustable (or so it seems), the legs swivel which is cool, the pedal folds up quick/easy for tossing in the case... I had a Pearl Eliminator - which was a great Hi-Hat stand, but you had to fiddle w/your drum key to fold the pedal flat... Good luck in your search! Mike

Thanks guys. I was thinking towards a DW, but those sure would be nice to check out. My hat beat was one of my strong points. Definately want to get back to that level again.

I like my DW5000 a lot. Can't go wrong with DW hardware.

I own both the DW 9000 series cable hat and the Tama Iron Cobra LeverGlide, and they're really two different beasts. You need to decide what type of action/response you want, as the two feel and behave differently. The DW cable hats, as with all brands I've tried, have "lag" to them, and I've found them harder to perform heel splashes on. The issue varies depending on hi-hat cymbal weight (less of an issue with 12 or 13" hats, moreso with heavy 15"s). The Tama IC is a typical/standard 2-legged stand, but built very well (as with the DW) and very adjustable (e.g. given it's design, you can tilt the whole thing towards you to angle both hats if you so desire). The action is fantastic - but the thing's a tank (as with all IronCobra accessories, IMO). Another thing to consider is cost. They're probably pretty similar to start with (been a while since I've purchased, and don't have current prices handy), but the DW could end up costing you a bit more if you want/need a different cable length. Anyway, the usual applies: YMMV and you should try out both

Thanks Dave, I will check out both. But I will go with the smoothest action for me. Feel is everything to me. I'm known for my double kick and independence. Hats included. Have to have something that will stand up to my old 14" hats. They've been with me and wouldn't want to change. I wouldn't know what to get to replace them. They sound that good to me.

Hey Chip...
If you haven't made a decision yet check out Gibraltar's 9607ML-LD(Liquid Drive).
I have a leg less one and a swivel base.
They're smooth and FAST!!
I LOVE em....

When it was time to buy a new stand, I compared the Tama IC with the Pearl Eliminator. Based on my experience with Pearl hardware, I was leaning toward the Eliminator before I got to the store. Both are very smooth, but I ended up with the Tama because it's less weight, slightly smoother, and the pedal folds up nicely.
I use a DW5000 HH stand several times a week that I don't like. It has some lag and a weak spring. And it's not very old.
I bought a used Pearl stand that I love. I don't know the model, but it's the one with the rotatable spike/rubber feet. If I had to make a choice between it and my Tama IC.....boy, that's a tough one. Pearl HH stands have always felt good to me.

consider me weird but i love the tama iron cobra hat stand. i love the feel to it and on the botom of the hat stand there is a fine tune adjustment for the tention that the pedal receives. just the spin of this knob at the botom of the stand and bam, perfect for the situation you need it for.

Hey Chip, I just recently bought the DW cable stand, have used the Eliminator forever, along with my Pearl Eliminator db pedal. I absolutely love the DW stand but wish I would have opted for the shorter cable. This pedal for me performs great and I love the versatility you have with the placement of your hats and db pedal. The main reason I switched to the cable stand was to place my hats at 12 o'clock which I also am loving a ton. Good luck....

Thanks Hannah....I found an old hat laying around I've used since the 70's. Even the name is duct taped up, but I'm guessing and old Slingerland hat. Haven't made a decision as of yet. I will give your sudgestion a shot and at least look at it. My wife found that I also have an extra Mapex 950 hat. Have more drum stuff laying around than I realized.
