I just picked up an 18 bass drum from craiglist.  It's a gretsch renown maple 18 by 18.  I'm a bit confused.  I can't find these dimensions even offered by gretsch.  I find this a bit odd.  Is it possible that Gretsch just discontinued the 18 by 18 size and I haven't been able to find an older catalog, which includes it?  Anybody here at DC familiar with this drum?  I will post a few pictures if I figure out how to do so.  Thanks for any comments/responses.

Did you measure it yourself or is that what the advertised (on Craigslist) size was)?  My thought is that whoever measured it didn't take off the wood hoops first.  Otherwise, I'm just not sure.

I measured it myself shell only and it's an 18 by 18.  It came from Forks a few years back in Nashville.  I sent pictures to gretsch and they confirmed that it was a prototype drum and finish and that they sell many of their prototypes as one-offs to Forks.

In terms of getting any matching drums, I'm probably out of luck though.  I'm checking with Forks on the outside chance they had some other drums in this same finish.

Thanks for your response.

You took the words right out of my mouth.  I saw one of these on Ebay from Forks.  It was an 18x18 bass and I was outbid.  Dang!  Cool stuff.  Have fun with it.  I would imagine that it's sweet.  ...envy...envy...envy...
