So you're saying all the evidence pointing towards fruit and vegetables is wrong and junk food gets a bad rap?
No, Chris. In fact, I didn't say anything about evidence, or fruits or vegetables or a bad rap. Methinks thou dost mischaracterize too much. ...people are fooling themselves if they think they can be as healthy as elite athletes by buying into fast food/energy drink advertising and sponsorship of sport.
Your overuse of the straw man argument could soon make straw environmentally unsustainable.

Ah, boy. I was going to have a quote party, but I'll just post in a random fashion what I wish to express:
--"Speed" already is legal, alcohol is a depressant;
--Carbonation can be a booger when you're exerting yourself;
--I've successfully and efficiently ridden an eight-mile round trip the other day (not a lengthy ride by any stretch, but substantial enough when an errand in the course of daily events) stuffed with a 12" pizza and three Cokes;
--Sugar does not cause diabetes (if I inferred that right), and the way it can---I stress can, not will---lead to diabetes is through causing overweightness, a condition upon which it does not have a monopoly;
--Suggestions such as string cheese and gluten-free unsalted wheat crackers are just as mischaracterizing, maybe...;
--They are going to cut an endorsement deal to make money. I suppose one could make use of an energy drink while they played, if one so chose. It's a little weird, yes.
EDIT: Does gluten-free wheat even exist? The gluten-free cookies I once had (weren't bad, BTW) were carob based.

I prefer carbs and water. I usually eat a bag of chips and a bar before/during my gigs/rehearsals. Water cools me down, adrenaline keeps me going, and carbs prevent me from being burnt out.

I felt the need to offer my experience and, yes, what the facts are to the best of my knowledge (and half-fast research). It's a drum and percussion board, but, you know, it's the best.

Great quote Bart. The US is also obsessed w/ everything being big--big houses, big horses, big cars, big portions. My son is doing a research project for one of his classes, and learned that during a lifetime, an average person consumes 43,000 sodas, but only 11,000 pints of milk. That, to me, is pretty shocking.

Milk is for baby cows, making cheese, and cooking. For everything else, cereal, Mudslides, etc we use Soy milk.
I actually drink a glass of milk maybe once every few months, if that.

And it can be argued that soy isn't all that healthy either, esp. for men, as it contains estrogen-like compounds, among other things. http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/soy.htmPersonally, I prefer milk anyway, esp. what I buy, which is local and clean. robyn

Sheesh. With all the crud we're eating and breathing, it's a miracle humans are alive at all.

It's easy for the survivors to say that. It's a shame about soy's alleged effects, too. I rather like tofu. Soy milk I ought to try (both neat and, ahem, fortified).

We like the Silk brand. The normal flavor...not the vanilla or chocolate.
I'll have to look into that article about Soy, that's the first I hear about that. Then again, it's not like I drink a half gallon a day.

I began cutting milk out as a beverage, for cereal, etc. because I didn't like its effects on my mucous production. Soya doesn't agree with my digestive tract and I've found rice milk to be an excellent alternative with none of the ill-effects of soya.

Most things are OK in balance and in moderation, milk, soy, carbs, even energy drinks.

Not here in Erath county, dairy capital of Texas. We send our boys out to Veldhuizen Family Farm every Sunday morning right after the milking to fill up the 5 gallon cooler. Stuart Veldhuizen also makes cheese from the raw milk and sells it to upscale restaurants in Austin and San Antonio.

One of my friends is a plant manager where they produce Silk. He gave us some samples. I was afraid to tell him I didn't like them.

My current band (doctor!doctor!) www.myspace.com/wedontmakehousecalls is sponsored by two energy drinks: Steaz (organic, vegan, fair trade, tea based goodness) and Roaring Lion (similar to Red Bull... but better... yeah). I'll tell you, I was a caffine junkie for a long time and got off of it by finally kicking the coffee habit. I do drink a steaz before shows sometimes or in the mornings when I'm really dragging. I don't like the idea of drug induced energy, but I must admit is useful sometimes. Some energy drinks do make me too jittery to really help anything. Another plus to the sponsorships is that when we're on the road and pinching every penny, we're not wasting money on drinks. We've got cases and cases in the trailer.

You need to figure out the cost per gallon it is costing you to haul that stuff all over (weight in the van) vs the price per gallon of gas!

Lol, compared to the thousands of pounds of equipment we carry... not a big deal. perhaps I should use 5A's instead of 5B's for gas considerations.
