I saw a band with 2 drummers the other day (both leftys too, crazy huh).  It was kind of a rock n roll / bluesy jam band.  Not really old school as in 70s stuff, more modern.  Wish I had another band to compare them to.

Anyways - it was pretty cool in appearance BUT it seemed to me that they basically played the exact same drum parts - the exception being one guy seemed to be playing more interesting ride patterns.  This made it kind of uninspiring.  I was thinking they were gonna do some back and forth stuff between them, or maybe some intereting syncopations or whatnot but it just didn't happen.

I would still give it a thumbs up though!

goth bands have recently started annoying me... i don't know why.
personally i think soad sucks bigtime.... but death metal/system of a down? come on!! what the heck is wrong with people these days. dumb wannabecool people,  it's all that "punk" and "numetal" crap flooding the world. get some nice soulfly people.  erg! i hate being my age! i can't talk about other people my age!... younguns!  maturity of the mind most teens these days DO NOT HAVE!!  anyone who thinks it's cool to talk like an uneducated bum needs to have a big ole nasty ulcer.  idiots...

(sorry... it's been a really bad day)

Sorry you're having a bad day, but is this really the best place for a "mature" person to vent? I thought this is a board about drumming, not about what kind of day we're each having.

Unless you're in the habit of going back and deleting old posts, your words are here to stay once you post them. What constructive purpose does a post like the one I've quoted accomplish, on a DRUM forum?  Roll Eyes What will a drummer gain from reading those words three months or three years from now? Think before you post. Or send your venting to a friend, via IM.

I just found out most of the recordings I'm on were actually played by Bernard Purdie.

Cool - glad you see my point.

I'd worry less about labels and more about MUSIC. Either you like SOAD or you don't - but who cares what you CALL it?

For that matter, maybe you just like some songs they do. But maybe you also like a Garth Brooks song.

It's all music. Listen to a lot, choose what YOU like, and don't worry about A) what to call it, or B) who else likes it.

Just relegating yourself to only being a "goth" or a "metalhead" or a "hiphop" person will do nothing but limit you. It's just music; it doesn't have to be a friggin' lifestyle! I like Slayer and I like James Taylor, along with NIN and Frank Sinatra. But none of those artists or bands define ME as a person.

well my saying soad being death metal is stupid is because it's not what it is.  i also have a problem with labels being a fan of everything from metallica to rage against the machine to toby keith.  labels are for closed-minded people but not on things that should have a classification.  it's be hard to find the cd you wanted if you went to the store and everything was just thrown together, ya dig?

Just a couple of "two drummer" setups you should listen to in order to see what can be accomplished:

Joe Cocker - "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" - Jim Gordon and Jim Keltner.  What more can I say?  AND they complement each other.

Joe Cocker - "Organic" - Kenny Aaronoff and Jim Keltner.  You can barely tell there are two drummers.  There was also a video produced of the recording of this CD.  To watch Aarnonoff and Keltner play "off" of each other, each utilizing various percussive instruments as well as traditional drumset.

Actually me and a friend of mine are currently working on project where we both play a full set with some percussions and we both own big kits anyway..It is just the two of us with no other musicians or instruments and we focus on a lot of intricate beats with polyrythms and independece and it is really amazing some things we can write, i find when i sit down with him as apposed to sitting down with my band i have a whole new way of looking at things and makes it very openly creative. everyone who heard it really likes it and myself think it's incredible what we can do together, we're gunna be recording it as soon as we get a couple full length songs down, really tricky timing but we both work on it and it's really great, if you can get something like this going i suggest doing it, it takes a lot of technial work but it's so good

My percussion section had 2 drumsets for pep band last year, mainly caus there were too many of us!  It worked out pretty good: if one of us screwed up(that never happens  Wink ) the other was there to cover us and also made for some real interesting fills!  Overall it was a blast - you could take turns playin out and goin wild and you didnt have to worry bout tirin yourself out (pep band games are really tiring after a while!)  Sounds like a cool idea to me...

I recently saw Meinl's "Generation X Days" 2003 Tour, wow... 3 great drummers playing at the same time (johnny rabb, marco minnemann, thomas lang).... they were alternating solos back and forth... the coolest thing ive seen so far.
