Wood Rims

Has anyone had any luck with after market wood rims on their drums? I'm not talking about factory made drums coming with it's own wood rim; I'm referring to switching out a metal rim for a wood rim ... such as on a snare drum that you already owned.

Nope, have not gone that way. Too busy swapping out heads and die cast hoops.

I haven't tried that . But on the top of my wish list is a snare like that . I used a Yamaha Anton Fig at a practice studio that I just fell in love with . It was the first time in a long while that I played on something that had me saying , " I gotta have this baby." Shocked

I have a friend who swears by Yamaha wood rims, even though he endorses another maker who also offers wood rims. I'll have to ask him if he's had any problems with hardware, breakage, etc.

I saw an ad for Yamaha wood hoops, ten holes for $184.95/pair. I'm really wondering how they would sound on my bamboo drum. So, I wanted float this thread back up and see if anyone might be able to better describe the difference in sound and feel and durability.

Also, are they like die-cast hoops? I hate die-cast hoops on a snare, but love them on toms!!
