Just received a Lug lock tempo ref which is great for finding tempo. Would be a good tool for anyone with speed up/ slow down syndrome. It works as a speedometer displaying the tempo you are playing at as opposed to a normal metronome which gives you the constant click to try and keep to. I found my time in the ball park anyway but this is going to be a useful tool for developing feel. It has other features which i have yet to suss out yet. Anyone else driven one of these? How do you get on with sentivity?. Placed on the drum it responds well if drum is played medium to hard but not a low volume. Instructions were not that clear.

Phil Varone always swore by the Beat Bug, which is a similar product (I think from the same manufacturer). He used it with Saigon Kick and Skid Row - he preferred it to a click track. He's a very solid drummer, and I know he feels a lot of that is due to the Beat Bug - he used it even back in his youth, playing clubs here in South Florida.

It basically keeps track of the time between your most powerful snare drum strokes, so I guess it can be effective if you play mostly 2 and 4 on the snare.

I just found out most of the recordings I'm on were actually played by Bernard Purdie.
