I'm thinking about buying another tom. the ones I have now are 12" and 14". The floor tom is 16". So I don't know what would be best: a 10" or a 14". I'd like to have some more diversity in my setup. I play music that's influenced by punk, rock, metal, hardrock, ska, punkrock. For the main line my kit is good enough but when we play techniqal I feel as if I'm short on toms. So a 10" would be something different and has a high tone, but might be to light and a 14" is powerfull enough but hasn't got the advantages a 10" has. I haven't played a 10" or a 14" yet so I only imagine they sound like this. Has anyone had more expierience with them? All advice would help. Thanx, Snuf.   |

Seems to me that you already have a 14" tom.
Even if you didn't, I'd recommend a 10" tom. You'd be surprised at how versatile such a drum is. But, it's all up to you in the end.

yeah, you said you have a 14. ill assume you meant 13. in which case id go for the 10.

sorry, Joe K. I don't have a 14" tom. it's a 13" tom, but I pushed the wrong number. And to relientkngodrums, I want to start with one extra tom instead of two because I play with a lot of cymbals so I don't know yet how I should set yet another tom without getting my cymbals out of range. thanx for the replies

So what's the benefit of a 10" and what's the benifit of a 14". Most of you say you'd choose a 10", can you explain me why? On this one I just got to be a pain in the ass, but it's important to me. greetings, Snuf  |

I'll bite:
10" -- tighter sound, higher pitched for more audibility, fits with your already big 12", 13", and 16" toms. 14", in this case, would sound rather close to the 13".
14" -- mid-range sound good for auxillary 'floor tom', more air moving for deeper yet less audible sound.

I'd get the 10". Would be hard to differenciate tones having 12, 13, 14 toms.
Actually, if you want a 6 piece, I'd get the 10 and 14 and ditch the 13.

go for the 10" definitely... most versatile... and if you go for the 14... ur range of toms is gonna be close... 12, 13, 14... they're all pretty similar... i know tons of kits that have that setup.... but i think if you arrange ur toms, 10, 12, and 14.. it would be perfect... and for ur set up now... 10, 12, 13 is good too
