Can anyone suggest exercises that will help me play quick 32nd notes on the bass drum?

I used to be able to play these great with my Taye pedal, but ever since I switched to a Pacific double pedal (which is significantly heavier), I haven't been able to. I can play large groupings of sixteenth notes well on one foot, but can't get two quick 32nds anymore.

This is a good excercise to help play those 2 quick 32nd notes on your bass drum. I transcribed this from a short solo Gadd did at the end of the tune'50 ways to leave your lover' In the 5th bar he plays a tasty 32nd note linear groove (with 32nd notes on the bass drum) practice it slow and slowly work it up to speed.

Try setting your metronome to 40 BPM.  You should have no problem playing 32nd notes at that tempo.

I give, learning surfacing by slipknot, credit for developing my 32's.

For developing fast 32nds with your feet here are some exercises I have found usefull.
Try  loosening your pedal tension and working heel down as you will fell the motion of the notes in your front of your calfs.
Work with a metrenome and start working one foot at a time. try to remain relaxed and just work your ankles.once you feel comfortable simply raise your heel slightly off the ground and try to tap the notes with your toes and use the spring action in your ankle.
remember the more relaxed you are the faster you will play.
Once you reach a comfortable speed and are playing relaxed and clean as fast as you can go try tightening up the pedals as you see fit.
Heel toe is the easiest way to do fast bassdrumming but I always teach my students single stroke techniquews as well using heel up and  heel down in ordre to build all the muscle groups
This will help you with control and speed
Another suggestion is topractice  playing  on the floor and slowly increase your speed .
Then go to your pedals and try it on the drums.
good luck

Hey Tim, that heel toe thing, i still dont really know what it is.

For example, when i play a punk beat (or fast 16ths / 32dns notes) the first note gets played heel down, and the second one heel up.... is the heel toe thing a "perfected" version of this technique?
