Hi,

Im really interested in buying the Z Custom Dyno Beat Hi Hats, and I need to know - is there any difference between the bottom hihat cymbal and the top one??

I need to know it because theres a closeout item on Music123 which is one cymbal only for $100.97 (14"): http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=59106
and theres the normal item (not closeout) of a pair of the same cymbals and they cost $223.44:
http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=59105

so I wanna know, to buy 2 of the only one cymbal = $201.94, or buy 1 pair = $223.44... if there is something different I should buy the pair, if not Ill save $23!!

Help out ppl Wink

Thanks, Run

The cymbals in a pair of hats are different weights. The heavy one is usually on the bottom.

Yeah, but it doesnt say "Top" / "Bottom" in the closeout sale of only 1 cymbal, and also I know the cymbals are both Heavy weight, and not one heavy and the other medium or something like most of the other cymbals... it probably the same, but I need to know for sure...

Interestingly enough, nudrum isn't neccessarily right on this one. BOth of the Z Custom DYno-Beat H-Hat cymbals - both top and bottom - are "EXTRA HEAVY," according to Zildjian.

Now, does that mean they're the exact same cymbal? Not neccessarily. The hammering seems to be the same, but it might be slightly different. Or they may lathe it differently. Or there might even be a significant weight difference between the two, just not enough of one to warrant a difference in the weight category that they are currently under.

COnclusion: I don't know, but don't assume anything. I'd go to a guitar center and play the top and bottom separately, and see if they sound like the same cymbal.

Or, you could just go for it and by the two tops or two bottoms. Lots of drummers do that - I"m sure it'll sound okay.

Or, you could just skip the hassle and pony up the $23!

Well I wasn't necesarily saying they would be classified as different weights but that the cymbals that are sold in a set usually have different weights. But I am working without research so not only will YMMV but IMBW (I Might Be Wrong) Roll Eyes

If there were different they would state on the item that its "Top HiHat Only" but in the product there they say "One HiHat Only", so maybe it is the same?

about going to the store, as I said this couple times in the forum, I live far away from any drumstore and even then they wont have anything more unique then a pair of Regular Zildjian A something (I mean they dont have too many different cymbals in the store)...
