I was out of town over the weekend for the Sean Hannity Freedom Concert (I produce a conservative morning talk radio program in Seattle and we went up to broadcast from the event) and the headliner of the event was the Charlie Daniels Band.

Now being a Southern boy and all, I've always loved the CDB, although his newer material is kinda weak.  That said, Pat McDonald (Charlie's drummer,) is one of the most tasteful drummers I've ever heard!  The guy totally licks out but does so in a really tasteful manner.  Plays a seven-piece silver sparkle Gretsch kit.  He plays his ride cymbal almost vertically over his head with all of crashes below the ride.  Totally different than me but it's working for him so...
lots of double-bass in the fills, very quick hands and lots of cymbal chokes.  I was really impressed.  Anybody else hear this guy?

Pat lives here in Nashville, and I've seen him play on numerous occasions; he's a fine player. What's funny is that Pat was the player I was referring to in a post almost a year ago ... in which I said that his pocket was lacking and I wasn't impressed. Obviously after hearing Pat on many other occasions, I quickly figured out that he was just having a bad night the first time I heard him.  Grin

I invited Pat to this forum, and he actually visited the Cafe for awhile, but has since let his membership run out.  Sad

Anyway, he's a great drummer and is definitely worth checking out. Here's his website: http://www.drumskull.com/
