Hello,
I'm looking to buy a stand for my bongos. I'm leaning toward Pearl, Meinl or LP's pro stands. I've used a friend's Afro stand that has 4 little cups for the bongo's feet (as does Pearl's stand.)
I'm wondering how the stands with just a support for the center block feel (like LP's pro stand.)
Any opinions would be appreciated!

I use and have used for a few years now, the Gibraltar 7516 bongo stand. It's the one that just has the support in the middle which is a clamp around the wood (center block, as you referred) in the middle holding the bongos together. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but is there such a thing as a bongo adapter? Something I can stick on an existing cymbal stand, you know something for $30 instead of $130.
or maybe a homemade solution - has anyone else come down this road before me?

You can purchase the top half of the Pearl stand separately for $49. The whole stand is $79. (Prices at MusiciansFriend.com)
Thanks for the info on the Gibraltar stand, Scott. I'm still undecided.

I've used a Gibraltar stand for a couple of years now and I agree that it is rock solid. And it was reasonably priced to boot.

yes, i don't suppose anyone's thought of any cheaper ways to setup their bongos eh?... I mean, mine are a bit uncomfortable between the legs, but i'd rather not have to shell out another hundred on a stand. any ideas??

actually, i don't have congas, but it would be nice to have something set up so they would be about the level of a snare or so, because i've found i get much better sound when they're in front on an incline towards me. Something that could be adjusted for standing or sitting would be nice, but either/or is good also.

Ok, congas and bongos are two different things, if you're talking about bongos then there is a stand that you can use to keep them about the height you want, LP makes it, Congas will never be that low.

i realize they're two different things. I have a set of bongos. I would like a stand for them that could be used for both standing and sitting if possible.

After breaking 2 cheaper stands, I have come to realize there is a lot more force coming out of direct hand contact with a drum head than stick contact. Go for gibraltar and only buy one stand. It'll last forever.
