Low cost mallet alternatives?

I'm just wondering if any of you could recommend quality, low cost timpani and marimba mallets for me to use in the little bit of that stuff that I do. What I've been looking at and have used in the past are Vic Firth's general timpani mallet and their medium hard rubber mallet. I would really like something priced fairly cheaply because I won't be using these much. Oh also, my Steve Weiss catalogue lists a lot of mallets at lower costs than the Vic Firths; are any of them of good quality?

Unless you are using them a lot, just about any mallets will last you a good while. Just be sure to treat them well also. Pack them with a bit of care.
