Anyone catch Vinnie with Sting last night on TOTP last night? Even on a normal family music show, the guy still rocks!! Anyone know anywhere else in the UK we can catch soon? DB

Hmmmm ... must be a rerun or old footage; I wouldn't think those two would be working together anymore. Perhaps I'm wrong ... so someone correct me if I am ... and you have the facts of course.

Vinnie IS playing with Sting again, he just finished in Europe and now they are doing a few dates in the US, he played with Sting in Chicago tonight as a matter of fact. Yeah, Vinnie finally seems HAPPY playing with Sting. Check Vinnie out at the International Drummers for Jesus Celebration this March in Dallas, TX. Bartman will be one of the artists there, too!!! Go to: www.drummersforjesus.com God Bless, carlos

Bart - why would you not think they'd be working together?
Last week Sting played on the Today Show. I was expecting to see Manu Katche playing with him. Nope - it was Vinnie. They played 2 tunes, then proceeded to screw up the programming of the show by playing two more tunes.
Sting is above the law.
I'd be curious to hear why you wouldn't think they'd be working together.

Because of how/why they stopped working together. I presumed the differences they had would prevent them from working together again. Neither side has fully disclosed what went on, if anything, but I was suspicious. All of that doesn't matter anyway ... so let's not go there ... again.

I caught them on the Today show as well. They were quite good. I guess my daughter being home sick had a silver lining after all. (She's all better now)

The techniques, though they play an important role in the early stage, should not be too restrictive, complex or mechanical. If we cling to them, we will become bound by their limitation. Any technique, however worthy and desirable, becomes a disease when the mind is obsessed with it.

Yes, I had heard rumors of their split, but was hoping for some solid info that was public knowledge.
Two guys who are each the king of their domain - it would be interesting to hear what happened (if, in fact, anything).

what is it with Sting and trad grip drummers?? I only know of two: Stewart and Vinnie To my knowledge, Manu and Abe are both matched grip players. Can't think of who else he's played with. There may be others that have used trad as well..

Sting has a new single out over here, sounds like it was perhaps written with Vinnie in mind; very drum orientated, especially the end with solo trades between 'The Man' and hand percussion . Shame I forget the name of the track... DB

A couple of things on this topic:
I saw Vinnie with Sting the other night on the Tonight Show I think it was, and of course, it was fantastic.
However, I just got news from someone who spoke to Keith directly, that Keith Carlock (currently finishing up with Steely Dan) is going on tour with Sting. I was surprised at that news, but that's what he said.
Hmmm...stay tuned I guess....

According to http://stingus.net/: The "Sacred Love" tour will take off late January 2004 in North America and will include Dominic Miller, Manu Katche, and most probably Chris Botti although he still has to confirm. No Kipper this time, and it is expected he will be replaced by Jason Rebello or Jeff Young. From May-June 2004 on, Sting will arrive in Europe with his new tour (festivals).
