Hello,
I'm in need of some help. I would
like to know which one you think is better over-all drum set between
these two sets. The genres of music that I play are rock,speed metal,punk,alternative, and a little bit of hip hop.

- Pearl ELX Export Select
OR
-TAMA Rockstar (maybe the Rockstar Custom)

I am very bias to Pearl!!!

Ive been playin Pearl for the last 22 years! and will never change. I'm currently using the Masterworks series that I have just picked up. I was playin heavy rock and the kit prior to the Masterworks kit took a good pounding over the years. That kit had the old fiberglass laminate on the inner shell.

What ever your choice good luck with the new tools!!

I've owned both, but jeez... that was like 10-12 years ago. I haven't followed how much the models have changed since then. If they haven't, I'd probably go with the Rockstar... better quality IMHO, nicer hardware, and better sound.

Anyone know how much these kits have changed over the years? My advice probably isn't worth a @$%# at this point. Cheesy

I'm biased to Pearl myself. Now if you've looked at some of my other posts and/or my web-site, you might think "that idiot doesn'teven play Pearl!" Ahh, but that is where you are kind of wrong! CB700 Internationale Series Drums were made for a limited time by the Kaman company, and they were a direct rip-off of the Pearl Export Series design at the time! So, after blabbing about my gear again enough to bore the s**t out of most people, my advice is to go with the Pearls! LOL!! Cheesy

I play Pearl and I think they are pretty decent. I wouldn't know if it was any better than the Tama kit though, since I havn't played it! lol, what I will say is that its a good solid kit, for the money!...I can't wait till the get a Pearl Masters for me to play on... Grin

hey i've played all 3 sets. and the rockstar custom is the best i've played except for my rogers and bradleys i have now. so i hope my useless oppinion helps

I own a Pearl Export 7 piece set, had them for 8 years or so, excellent condition in the studio, and I enjoy playing on them.

Which color is cooler?

Go with that one.

If the Tama's are Japanese...I'd go with them...If they are both Chinese then go with the Pearl "bark" or the Tama "boing" cut- Personally I hate both.
