I mean, what to practice when you have to travel or by any means get a lot of time away from a drumset... Just with a pad and sticks... And continue developing your technics...

I don't. And I felt the effects of my vacation during this weekend's gigs.  Lips Sealed

When I'm away I take a mini cassette recorder with me as I did this last time. When I get a beat idea in my head, I'll "sing" it into the recorder. I came up with this cool groove in 7 that had some nifty shifting feels for verse and chorus changes.

I do this a lot too... Some time ago I have done some cool grooves when I was away of my drums... And I forgot them all... @$%# I didn't wrote them...

When your without a kit? good god man, how would you live??? Grin

I have it on good authority that practicing rudiments of the drums as well as on helps control, say on a pillow or your lap. So i do that when I'm not at my kit. But man, I just tap everything anyway! Wink

rudiments, rudiments, rudiments, and rudiments. if you have sticks as well, only a pad wont get you anywhere hehe

playing along with songs you hear on the pad is nice

Don,t foget to tap away with you feet aslos.Do them rudiments with you feet.
 Great when you Watching TV show. On a bus or train . Mind you don,t do then when you driveing a car  Wink Sitting typeing at a desk. Siting in the pub with you freinds, you can tap away under the table . And heck if music beening play in the place that can be use as a metronome.
   Aslo really great for  you double bass parts. And any of yours who don,t have much time at the kit as they wolud like.
