Check this out!

The making of Steely Dan's "Aja"

A British session drummer I've been corresponding with just turned me on to this, saying it's terrific. It's part of a whole series of DVDs focusing on the making of classic albums. Way cool!

did you read in one of the reviews that there is no mention of Gadd's one-two take performance on the title track? That kinda sucks, that would REALLY make the DVD interesting.

Are they similar to the VH-1 ultimate album shows?

VH1 has a series called "Ultimate Albums" where they concentrate on one particular album per show, mostly from rock bands. They interview the band, producer, fans, etc. and talk about its influence.

It's not bad. Not as good as CatDog though.  Wink

I think there's some priceless stuff about Bernard Purdie that might make the program interesting.
On the 'Songs in the Key of Life' program I seem to remember they get into Stevie Wonder's drumming too.

i am a huge fan of this show.  It is part of the "classic albums" series that shares the same logo as the VH1 series.  However, there is no print mention of VH1 on this DVD.  They are made by "Rhino."

Anyone that gets a kick out of how a recording's  production all goes down will love this presentation format.  Becker & Fagen are almost as funny as they are musically gifted.  So, there is plenty of entertainment factor in there.

... slightly off subject ...
Watching the original (minus 1) line-up of Stevie Wonder's band play Sir Duke again for the `97 release of the "Songs In the Key of Life" classic album is not perfect, but close enough to magic for me.

see all of the classic albums titles available ...

I just watched the Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon one the other day.   Not very interesting.   To sum up ...

Band - Well, we had moved on already after loosing Syd.  So it was just a matter of going into the studio and recording stuff we had been working out live for the past year.  Oh, on this one part we used to do this fast jazzy thing, we decided to use this warbley synth instead.

Alan Parsons - I made the clock recordings!

Band - So it was pretty much effortless.  It went well, went fast, we did what we wanted and created one of the best selling albums of all time.

Dave Gilmour - Yeah, Rogers lyrics were a bit gloomy.

There's also a Classic Albums release for Deep Purple's Machine Head that's not listed.  That album was a big influence when i got started on the drums 25 years ago.
