Bosphorus Cymbals

Anyone ever play or check out Bosphorus Cymbals? If so, what did you think about them? How do they compare to other cymbals you've played or heard?

I personally think these cymbals sound great. If I were playing straight-ahead jazz ... or a style in which I wanted a darker overall sound ... I would DEFINITELY get a complete set of these cymbals. They really remind me of the old K's from Turkey; nice full-bodied sound, with a lot of character.

I have 4 of them.

21" ferite series ride which is just amazing. Where ever/however you hit that thing it sounds different but musical.

17" ferite crash...really dark and heavy,

17" traditional crash ride...a little heavier, highest in pitch

17" masters...very thin, fragile, airy but dark. My fav of the 3 crashes. It has a soft sound to it...like all of the bosphorous, to me, have a soft character to them.

Expensive

They are so bizarre.... I like them but I don't play enough full on jazz to warrant keeping them. I wish I did play more jazz. So I will keep them unless someone knows what they are and will give me what they are worth. They are so complex and I think very hard to play. I have recorded with them and they are cool just to keep for that.

I agree Bartman. I decided after checking out the Diana Krall live DVD that Jeff Hamilton had some boss cymbal sounds. Bosphorus are tops. Too bad most music stores here have to keep with the mainstream brands. I love my Zildjians, but second to these I'd like to have a Bosphorus traditional setup.

yeah, a lot of smaller brands get neglected pretty easy, bosphorus, UFIP, instanbul

they all have cymbals which are easily up there with the big names
