Hi, I have a 16" bendir and I would like to put it on some kind of stand for easier playing and setup. Should be able to change angle. I am thinking also about 22" frame drum. What do you guys ( and girls  ) use? Any homemade stands? Thanks Ales |

I've never seen them on a stand, only hand held. A snare stand might work for you if it will hold the drum high enough to hit. Are you hitting this drum with stick or with your hand? It could make a difference as the snare stand is designed for sticks and not the pressure of hand percussion. Know any blacksmiths or metal fabricating people? You could get a stand built, maybe. Just a few ponderings..........

Some snare stands can pull off a 16". Bring the drum to a shop and try 'em out, even the cheap ones. If all else fails Pearl makes a new fancy snare stand that can do 16" without trying, its designed to. The only other option I know isnt really good for stick use, but does work, and can work on even a 22". Ive got one of these and like it quite a bit. Do a search here and you should find my review on it. Its a strap system made by Everyone's Drumming. |

Well, I was thinking for hands primarily and maybe brushes.
I found out I prefer the "djembe" position when playing free hand style, rather than leaning down and having frame drum between legs.
Does a strap system rock or move a lot when hitting with hands?

Does a strap system rock or move a lot when hitting with hands? Moreso than with brushes because you tend to lean into the drum more. Its not the best system out there thats for sure. Especially for larger drums. Its mainly for goblet style drums. If you really want your frame drum on your kit, Id just attach a tom mount and use a tom arm. |

Hi Alesj, I have changed an old snare stand, working with a very long arm and i can use frame drum from 16 to 26 or a Tapan or a Zabumba in orrizzontal way. I can't told to you exactly that I have made because my english is limited.If you want i try to send to you a pitcure or a drawing. Bye Mauro |

I went and saw Galactic last night! Great show. They are a really groovy band out of New Orleans. Their drummer, Stanton Moore, had a large frame drum on what looked like a snare stand. He did some nice brush and light stick work on it. His wasn't a bendir, it was more of a large rik(tambourine type thing with jingles), but the stand should work for a bendir too. I thought it was funny that I had never seen it before, then right after your post, I saw this setup! Good luck finding a larger snare stand.

When mounting a frame drum, I typically use my Bodhran because of the cross piece design in the shell. This makes it very easy to mount on a snare drum stand ... which by the way, I use a stand designed for soprano snares.
I would think that the old Ludwig snare stands would work with just about any frame drum, although I've not tried it. They were designed to handle 15 to 16 inch diameter drums. You know which stand I'm describing? It's the stand where two of the arms swiveled and the third arm slid in and out. The kind of still used in many Ludwig snare kits for band students.

I believe Moore usually uses a Pandiero (sp?) in his kit. A latin style tambourine/frame drum thing. I thought it was only a 13" but I could be wrong on both counts in this case. Bart, Ill have to try my bodhran in a snare stand, never occured to me. Now if only I can get my tabla to sit right in a snare basket |

I tried Yamaha 700 and 800 series snare stands in a store and they fit my 16" bendir exactly when completely open.
I thought it may be of interest to any of you planning to put a frame drum on a stand.
