I couldn't get the link to open, but if you have never marched before, and aren't real confident in your rudimenatal style of playing, don't be surprised (or disappointed) if you are playing BD or cymbals (which is not a bad thing at all). That's not a bust on you, but it's often the truth.
I agree, especially if you never marched before. Having the chops to play snare or quads is one thing, but marking time, and playing in motion on the field is something else you need to get used to. As a matter of fact, I would practice stick control while marking time. Its difficult, but eventually it will become 2nd nature for the most part.
By all means, you should strive for what you want, but be prepared to accept what is offered to you if you land BD, PIT, or cymbals. You can learn from all positions. Personally, I would try BD. Its not as easy as it looks, plus you can have lots of fun with those things at games and in parades.
