My dad worked in a pathology dept. also.

He has told me some stories.

Anyways, the bright side of the story is if I quit for 3 years, most of the damage will be repaired.

Ok...I'm not going to post on this anymore until I DO smoke again.  So Bart, you might as well lock it.

I once had a friend who quit smoking for exactly a year.  And on the anniversary day, he had a cigarette to celebrate.  After that, he was right back on it, smoking as per his usual amount.  And he still hasn't managed to quit. Roll Eyes

I had another friend who quit for 6 months, and thought that he could get away with one here or there.  Now he's back again to being a heavy smoker.

My point is that you have to be very careful not to get reensnared.  Don't even think about it, don't dream about it, don't wish for it...

It forever... or it won't happen. Grin

Hey Everyone,
Hows it going?  Figured I'd start my posting with this topic just cause it so relates to me. It's been 3 weeks 1 day since my last smoke. I smoked for 11 years. I have no urge whatsoever to ever go back to smoking. Im So Over it. Anyways, congrats Felix on your quit. Job well done.

Good for you.  I have bad news for you though.  One is never over it.  I have not cheated yet, but as the days go by, they smell worse and worse to me and the prices keep climbing so what's the point?

I have more energy plus I breath and smell better (sometimes not a good thing), but all in all, I'm glad I quit.

Well, I started again last year due to general mid life crisis and freaking out excuses.

But I quit again and it has been 21 days since I smoked a cigarette, used the patch or ate the gnarly tasting nicotine gum.

I'm sleeping, breathing and singing better.  I hope I can stay off of them for a few more years.

Thanks,
f.

Thanks, you guys are supportive.

I played a job saturday- a real dive bar.  And I probably smoked a pack second hand, but I didn't actually light one up so that was cool.

There is a non smoking law that just got passed in ohio this year.  Some bars are smoke free, but some are not (I guess they have no way to enforce this law yet).  But it will be like California and New York soon here.  That is, smoke free!

wow, never noticed this thread.

congrats and keep it going, felix! every attempt is a step in the right direction. we all 'fall off the wagon' from time to time. just get on it again.

i'm going to send this to my friend's boyfriend, who is in i think week 4 of quitting. i never saw such a heavy smoker; 5 packs a day! he is really having a hard time; goes between feeling depressed and feeling like killing people. i can't even imagine. i've been addicted to various things over the years, but never stogies. i tried them for 30 days in high school, then fainted getting off the bus. smoking held no allure for me after that.

it sounds like you really don't enjoy them and don't want to go back. that's as great a motivator as any! congrats again.

Hey Felix, sending you much encouragement, best wishes, etc....

I was a hard-core smoker for @ 25 years, and quit in 2001. One thing that helped me get through it is that I fixed my mind to have ZERO internal debate about having a smoke. I figured I could win the debate 999 out of 1,000 times, but that at some point I'd cave and light up. So I just slammed the door on it.

No Smokes. Period!

However... I left myself an out... if I'm 80 or 90 and my days are obviously numbered, I'll give myself permission to have a smoke if I really want one.

Like Lennon said... "Mind Games...."  Cool

Stay strong.

I quit 12 years ago.

Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with emphysema.  Hanging out in smokey clubs isn't such a great option, anymore.

If I hadn't quit when I did, it would have been much worse, though.

Way to go Wesley!
I remember you smoking during the break at the Art Verdi/ Tiger Bill master class, was a bit surprised then.
I have been killing myself for over thirty years, and paying to do it.
You inspire me to do what I have been thinking about for some time.
I tried twice before, never making it past a week.I gave up drinking and drugs, including smoking weed.
Tobacco is by far the hardest substance to kick for me.
I have heard alot of people say they did it with hypnosis. Think I will give that a try.
From my personal experience I would like to point out two things to all readers.
For anyone who tries the patch, do not, I repeat do not smoke while wearing a patch.
Do not by any means sleep with the patch on. This is worse than a bad acid trip.

Felix, you really kicked butts!

I kind of liked the dreams, reminded me of younger days!

Been free of butts 4 months now, but still take it 1 day at a time. The key is always remember your just one cigarette away from being a full time smoker again.  Being the only one in the band that doesn't smoke or drink makes me a real party poop I guess.   I'll go for the woman instead !  Grin
