Just use a powered floor wedge to amplify yur signal.

Not too much ... in my opinion. When I used to play clubs, I triggered my kick and toms all the time ... sometimes the snare.

It was great because I could change kick drum sounds for each song ... which is really great for the dance stuff.

I'm in a 4 piece bar band that runs its own sound from the stage. I've been triggering my kick and toms for over 10 years. No matter how small the club, the bass drum always needs to be 'in the mains' to give dancers a pulse to latch on to. This holds true even if we don't use any subwoofers (some places) and just have vocals in our mains. The kick is just loud enough to be felt out front, and I still have the option of changing sounds for different tunes. The best part of this is the great sound I'm constantly getting complimented on, and I'm just using an Alesis DM5.
