Phil Ehart in - "Incomudro - Hymn To The Atman" and Ringo's solo in "The End". My two favorite drummers so I threw them on.

It was Michael Shrieve and he didn't need to be on anything as he was 16 at the time, with energy thiat I have forgotted existed.

Favorite Solo - Buddy Rich on West Side Story from the Swingin New Big Band Album

Roger

That BR solo always did it for me, too!  I've also heard people say that Shrieve was 16 at Woodstock, but in reality he was 20 (born July 6, 1949)

I think it's a Buddy Rich Memorial scholarship concert....

There are two tapes Chambers, Belson, Bissonet     then Vinny, Gadd, and Weckl

I've seen both of those videos.  There's some cool stuff on those.  I don't remember Colaiuta having a "Welcome Back Kotter" hairdo though  Wink .  Mister Kotter's (Gabe Kaplan) hair was curly, unless you're referring to, maybe, Horseshack or the other students that did absolutely no school work.  OK that's enough of memory lane  Lips Sealed .

i just watched a really old halirous mike portnoy solo.  He plays the ugliest set i have ever seen and does the whole thing in a tight black one-piece spandex jumpsuit.  However to say this solo is incredibal would be a huge understatement.  Just when i thought i was a pretty good drummer too!

There are many good solos out there, of course we can now SEE John Bonham from Led Zeppelin playing the drum solo to Moby Dick on the new DVD boxed set.  I was amused to see that many of the John Bonham trademark licks, triplets, phrases, and hooks are also old jazz trademarks from old drum solos (I noticed this while watching the DVD "Classic Drum Solos & Battles, chock full of old clips of drummers doing solos: Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Louis Bellson, Art Blakey, etc).

My favorite drummer, who incorporates all of the above really well, is Ian Paice of Deep Purple.  Get the cd "Made in Japan" and listen to the song "The Mule".  It is an OK song that lasts maybe a minute or two, but then goes into a long, awesome drum solo--- one of the most musical, groovin, technical & feel drum solos ever!!  In my opinion of course...   Enjoy!

I love how Horacio" El Negro"Hernandez plays his solos ... check out the dvd 'Calle 54' where he plays with Michel Camillo...he covers the whole latin ensemble on his kit and keeps a jazz swing feel and keeps clave with his foot, stays cool and musical, then Camillo bust out a 'montuno' and ''El Negro'' really takes it back home...dura!!!

Ah, this is very easy for me.  It was back in the late 70s ELP was touring the Works Volume One album and Carl Palmer did a solo in the middle of "Pirates".  Carl had always been a major influence of why I drum today.

I don't know ... I don't really get off on the drum solos as much as how the drummer is fitting in with the music.  For example, listening to Tony Williams on "Byrdlike", from the V.S.O.P. album, he's tearing it up on the kit, but it's fitting in.

"We always solo, yet we never solo."  - Joe Zawinul, on the first Weather Report album.

I really do take note of conga solos, though ... there's literally more of a "feel" to it.  Miguel "Anga" Diaz on "Anabis", from the AFROCUBANISMO! CD by Irakere ... that gets me goin'.

It's impossible to pick just one, but there's one particular drum solo from Dennis Chambers that really blows my mind everytime.  I don't know where was it recorded, but the name of the file is DENNIS-CHAMBERS(best-funk-Drum-Solo).

And of course, anything and everything from Steve Gadd. He's probably my favourite "soloist" cause he's so @$%# musical.
