My band has ended up off this holiday season! We have a New Years gig, but the rest of the month we're using to learn more songs. We have in our repitoire a list of Christmas songs we can do at parties and such.

Run, Run Rudolph (Brian Adams Version)
Please Come Home For Christmas (Eagles Version)
Blue Christmas (Elvis' Version)
Jingle Bell Rock (Bobby Helms Version)
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee Version)
We could do some other standards in a pinch. But we won't be needing them this year! *whew* Really I'm glad to have some time off! We've been pretty busy!

I usually loathe Christmas songs, mainly because the singer always wants to do them at every gig starting from Thanksgiving, and I suspect many in the audience don't want to be reminded.  That said, I heard Chicago do a great version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" on the Today show a few years back and it was outstanding. It had a slow hard rock beat and when I learned it realized it was a blast to sing.  It has cool changes--try it!

One of my favs to listen to AND play, is the John ( Cougar) Mellencamp version of "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Clause".
It has a nice upbeat feel, everyone remembers it and its always a crowd pleaser.
