What are your thoughts about Paiste Signatures (I'm getting them anyway, but I just want to know what you think).

I love them...they might not be the best sounding cymbal in the world on a stand, but man, they are consistent. To me they are easy to play. The colors of Paiste's seem really controlable- you go for a certain color and it's right there. You break a 17" fast crash, the next one you pick up will be close to it. I love that. They record nice also.
They might not always sound the best on a cymbal rack, but there is something about the tone of those things with music that just is sooooooooooooooo nice to my ears.
They are on the fragile side...I've never broken one, but I always thought if you were playing a cymbal that hard it sounds well, like anything before it breaks.

I have a Paiste Dry Ride that I've had for about 6-7 years or so. I got it after spending considerable time searching for a new ride. It seemed versatile, with a good clear bell and also some great character coming from different areas of the flat part of the ride. Plus it just sounded different. I like it, it records really well although it's not quite as nice live.
I'd probably get a K Custom Ride now if I was to buy again. But I do like that Paiste and I'm in no real rush to replace it.

I have broken one, and it still sounded good! LOL!! I love the sound, but as Felix said, they are a bit on the fragile side. And a bit expensive for my taste. |

Hey search64,
I absolutely love my signature serices cymbals, they record great, and cut through anything on stage. I also have a set of Sabian cymbals, I have'nt used them in about a year, go with the paiste, in my opinion they are great cymbals.

I have a 16" Sig. Heavy Crash and a 20" Ride that i like very much...who said they aren't the "best" cymbals..opinions are like......I've happily played Paiste stuff since 1976 without any complaints or breaks.... go for it!!!!!  |

If you can afford Paiste, they sure put out a rich tone, and as has been said, very consistent among same-size and type. The Signature Sound-Edge hats are the best on the market IMHO.
I figure as long as you're paying the premium for the shipping from Switzerland, you may as well go all the way and get the Signature top-of-the-line, for the difference in price.
btw, sidereal, I have a K-Custom Dry Ride and I like the way it sounds live or recorded.

In a bad mix nothing sounds good.
The two headliners both had paiste sigs/traditionals it looked like and 2002's (one guy had the sound edges)
And the winner was the opening band from akron believe it or not...that guy played Sabians...broke my heart to hear the paiste's get stomped by a bunch of AA's- I have to give credit where it's due.
The headliner guys were both great drummers, but the mix was weird sounding way up front. The low end was all screwed up on their kits (not enough, kicks had that "papery" sound with not enough lowend sustain attached to them. So the paistes just screamed thru the mix really out of balance.

hey, man i wouldn't get another pastie for nothin'. i got a brand new pastie  i forget what series but it was the highest one and i had it for a week and the whole out side of the cymbal fell off the bell. i would personally go with zildjians. |

How hard do you hit your cymbals dude? I've NEVER seen a Paiste brake. Hopefully you sent it back, you might have just got a bad one in the bunch!
