i have all sabian AAX cymbals, and i do clean them. i use Grove Juice. it works great and takes the tarnish right off. however, about a week after i clean the, the tarnish comes right back, twice as much!! i never handle or touch them either. anyone know what is going on? should i stop using the grove juice and use sabian brand creams or whatever?

Your problem is likely that you did not give them a thorough rinse, after applying the polish.  I put mine in the bathtub and rinse with one of those shampoo sprayers that attach to the faucet.  After they are dry, a coat of Pledge or Armor All will help prevent stains from fingerprints. Handle with cotton gloves or a piece of towel to prevent fingerprints and wipe them off immediately if they do get handles by uncovered fingers.

I throw an old sheet over my entire kit between uses.

somewhere we had another thread somewhat similar to this one.  someone asking about cymbal cleaner.   somewhere in the replies someone mentioned that once you used a cleaner (i don't remember which one they were talking about)  you'd need to use it almost weekly to keep them from tarnishing up.

now me, i've never cleaned my cymbals.  the cymbals have gone seventeen years without a cleaning.  they look fine, not a mirror sheen, but they don't look like a big, flat turd or anything.  they also sound AWESOME,  something abotu the cymbal maturing... i never caught the whole explanation.

I use groove juice once or twice a year.  I rinse them well after cleaning.  I put them in the shower and it works great.  I have never had a problem with the tarnish returning quickly.

I clean with Bar Keeper's Friend whenever I think they need it.  As with Groove Juice or any other cleaner that involves water, you must rinse thoroughly and then dry completely.

I like the idea of Pledge.  I'm going to try that next time.  I put car polish on a Paiste last week, because it was tarnishing much more rapidly than my Zildjians.

Also, the lemon smell might be nice in a smoky club.

I will tell you a good trick to keeping your cymbals looking great.  After you use the Groove Juice you need to take and use Zildjian Cymbal Cream (I have only used this one but you could check the others out).  The trick is to use the cymbal cream like car wax and use it sparingly.  But you do need to wash off the Groove Juice because it is an acid and will eat away the finish of the cymbal.  Hope this helps!
