Your Right, Bart did Select the Sonor Drum Set for a Particular Church, What does that Tell You, and Bart Knows His Equipment. Look its a Matter of Opinion, but Sonor Makes a Great Quality Product. After All its a GermanMade Company, What do other People think about Sonor on this Forum. Thanks, Victor. P.S. We can Disagree without Being Disagreable.

welp,

if we're gonna go along with Bart's example, he may have chosen them for a church's setup, yet he doesnt have a single drop of Sonor in his collection?

but, so what if Bart uses or doesnt use Sonor?  does it really matter?  Dave Weckl uses my fav brand of the moment, Yamaha, but that fact is not gonna make me wanna like his playing.  Matt Cameron, who i hold in the highest regard for rock group drumming, was a long time Ayotte user, but i'd never shell out the kind of dough for what they're priced.

i'm not discounting Sonor gear.  its obviously good stuff.  but i wouldnt use mere endorsements or whether or not something is manufactured in Germany as a basis for a "good" drum brand.  its all relative.  early '70s VW Beetles were made in German, but they were known to be most unsafe and unreliable cars of its era!

if a drum has the sound that you like over another drum company's sound, if it has a certain unique quality that makes you sit up and notice, is built well enough for you, and is priced accordingly to you, and most of all has the "Pitter Patter" factor for you, then you make your own value judgements, and pass that info onto the next guy.  in the end, your own opinions are what really count.   Cool

So I see only one comment about Ludwig.  Are they really that bad now?  Or just too expensive?  I was tempted to buy 3 sheels from MF but when I was done speccing it the total was 1200.

I noticed a lack of Ludwig comments too.

I bought 7 new Ludwig Classic Maple drums two years ago and couldn't be more happy.

 8", 10", 12", 13", 16", 18", and 22"

Cost me c. $2100 I believe from Interstate (that included RIMS for 4 mounted toms, memory locks and L arms, and shipping)

I have two things to say about ludwig...actually a few.... I find their metal snare drums to be without equal in my collection. I find their hardware a little on the bulky side....  ..and I find their wood shell construction to be a little on weak side.. Their larger drums tend to go out of round pretty routinely if the drum sees a lot of the heavy abuse that comes along with constant gigging... and the bearing edges tend to not be very robust....  It looks as though the way the plys are laminated that the edge happens to end up right at the seam... If there are any voids in the shell (common with Ludwig) then the edge will suffer....and so will your sound...    Still there are great examples of good sounding ludwig kits out there, but when you are looking to get a new kit you need to check those things out first before plunking down your hard earned money...

Just the opinion of an old dog.
