In my recent Interstate Catalog they have Spectrasound chimes. Now I noticed that they were also selling replacement nylon strings. This got me laughing.I use Tree Works chimes and will never use any other. You would think that most companies who make chimes would do what Tree Works does and go the extra mile to ensure that there is no way that any individual chime will ever be off the set.I have noticed that many drummers have chimes that seem to be minus a few chimes. That would drive me insane. What do you all think? Also I must once again Tree Works chimes if you plan to get chimes, they are sweet, not very expensive and I know the owner of the company through talking to him and that guy is determined to make the best possible product and goes the distance to ensure that each customer is 100% satisfied. Now thats the way to run a buisness.

Tree Works are great ... but so are Spectrasound chimes (Mark Tree). I have a set of Spectrasounds and the row is 4-feet in length. Yes, the nylon strings do break from time to time, but it's a nominal expense to replace the string.

I know guys here in Nashville who work for Tree Works. They all sit around putting Mark Trees together ... and it takes hours.

I do admire the "extra mile" that is taken ... but to me, it hardly discounts the quality of some other Mark Tree makers.

Spectrasound has been around for a long, long, long time, and they make a great product. If anyone should get a clue it's LP (Latin Percussion). Their Mark Trees absolutely sound TERRIBLE!

I have had my Specrtasound marktree for 25 years or so.  I think I have broken 2 nylon things that hold the chimes.

What does Tree Works use that is SO superior?

I actually wasn't sure if Spectrasound was still in business until I saw them in the latest Interstate catalog.

I made a few sets of my own wind chimes, using 3/8" aluminum rod stock, and hanging them on nylon price-tag loops I got from a department store. It was fun, and sounded great. You need a drill press to drill the rods, though, so I went to a friend's house where her dad had a workshop. The rods are easy to cut with a hacksaw.

If any of you are in Bob Vila mode, it's a fun project!

It's those nylon price-tag loops that break ... and is what Spectrasound uses. No big deal for me. It takes a long time for them to wear out, and if they DO break, it's usually because something is pulling on them ... like when I am transporting them, even though I do have a bag to carry them in.

I won't debate that Spectrasound has good chimes.I have done my tapping at music stores and fopr the most part most chimes sound good.Except LP as Bart said.LP has great persussion and I will use it until the end of time, but no chimes from them.Maybe its just a matter of prefrence but I just love Tree Works.Maybe Tree Works is like the spectrasound of this era.

I'm not really debating the sound quality. I think Tree Works sound fantastic!

You were knocking Spectrasound as though they were a 'no-name' brand or something, all based on how they attached the chimes. It's that part that I don't agree with.

If I came off bad in my first post I do apologize.I didn't mean to come off as nasty about Sectrasound as I did.
