Huh Hey Everybody!  I just picked up a camco (an oldie) pedal.  It feels pretty good - but it has a nylon strap - and I was thinking of taking a chain mount from one of my dw pedals and putting it on this camco pedal.  I would  think that the nylon is quieter, but a chain might feel better. Whaddya guys think?  Good idea/bad idea?   Cool

I have an old Tama pedal that I use, and I have found that it seems to be smoother than my Pearl chain driven one. Its just my preference, but at the moment I find the strap driven has a better feel, and doesn't have so many annoying problems as the chain driven, but both are pretty old, so I'm not saying that all chain driven pedals are like mine! (I'm wanting a double bass pedal anyway, and that will be chain driven).

Bad idea if you don't know what your doing. Maybe you do(only you know and im not saying you don't).

If it was me I know that if I had to reassemble the DW again the action would never be the same again....but that's just me.

Simple answer....just get used to the strap action (no jokes please Smiley) of the Camco.

Best to have TWO working peddles I would have thought.

I have an old SONOR peddle with a nylon strap and ive always got on with that more than chain drives. But saying that some of the DWs are lovely so maybe im wrong.....its your choice...."do you cut the blue wire or the red"Smiley

Thanks for the replies folks, but have you found that the nylon straps break after awhile?  I ask this because this is the first strap driven pedal I've owned...  Thanks again for the info... Smiley

Well, my Tama pedal was second hand from a guy I know, I don't think he ever replaced the strap, and it must be pretty old! I have used it for almost every gig I have done, and I use it when I practice, and its held up just fine, and doesn't look like it will break any time soon! Grin

Now this is the "how long is a piece of string" question.

I would of said it depends on how you play (hard or soft)..do you play up the board or down etc. Also if you multiply that with the age of the peddle and the type and style of the player before you....well, this formula could go on and on.(somewhere I bet PI would crop up Smiley)Oh, and it depends on the nylon as well. Is it the plastic film type or the woven composite like my peddle.

Not that im making fun but maybe only you can answer this...play and find out Smiley

Its worth having a deeper look on the forum as the Chain vs Nylon has been posted there. The info I got was from an MD and it had advice off some of the main double kick/peddle players.

Boiled down, nylon was given the better feel award but chain was stronger. There was variations to this but on the whole it seemed to come out like that.

If the shop see's your money then they should be pleased to help. If they dont have one of the options in stock(peddle type) it would be worth trying another make that has both drive train types so you can feel the difference for yourself then try and imagine how your chosen make peddle may feel.

Its not an exact science, its best to have both in front of you so shop around but if you cant wait, then....well, it may be helpful.

I would advice you to ask to test them on a bass drum and not on demo(point of sale) strike pads as the feel can be very differnt.
