Rudiments...
I have been working on the rudiments again in a more focused manor than ever before. I've come to the conclusion thru working on the rudiments that they are very important to know. Profenciency of the rudiments are great help for drum set playing.
Lets look at the Swiss Triplet.
Basic sticking. Flam single single
(Rl r l) or (Lr l r)
notice that the grace note and the last not are swung eighths.
split it up on two surfaces.
play the left hand on the snare and right hand on the ride cymbal and you a have two blues shuffle varitions for a groove or break.
For a drum break play the left hand on the snare and the right clockwise and counter clockwise around the toms and snare drum. Another variation is to put the right hand on the floor tom and move the left hand around the drums in the clockwise and counter clockwise motion.
Play quaters on the bass drum and 2 - 4 with the hi-hats.
Don't forget to also play these utilizing flat flams.

Play them on your kick in an osti pattern and solo over the top
In faster tempos swap those kick groupings between your displaced voicings like you said on the toms...you are now officially hip in a phat swiss sorta way...
It's also cool to play them on the kick during shuffles and jazz patterns

when you say kick are you referring to double bass?
hi-hat and bass drum?
left hand and bass drum?
right hand and bass drum?

John you can also change the sticking which would make for a more fluid swiss triplet:
rL LR / rL Lr
lR RL / lR Rl
David Garibaldi uses swiss triplets quite often in his grooves.

I'm refering to whatever surface you got swiss it out...looks like stevie morello even inverts them...cool, thanks, havn't done that consciously yet.
The other cool thing about them is you get an instant shuffle ride on the dominant flam hand...then get your double bass shuffle happening (hot for teacher speed) and watch the jaws drop...throw in your swiss' at that speed...real phat man.

I believe Felix is just abbreviating the word 'ostinato', which is referring to a repeated pattern. |

Hi y'all
as Steve has said, David Garibaldi is a big swiss triplets fan. check out his book "the funky beat"... some nice grooves with swiss triplets.
