A freind of mine told me about 3 years ago that 3 days a week he would go and have his back re-aligned and so on and so forth.I had asked hi why he had to do this and his response was " After having been drumming for 5 years my back is out of whack " and for a while I was like oh no,what if this happens to me.Yet as time went on and I sat and really thought about it,you have to be sitting crooked and moving your spine in odd ways to get your back that badly out of shape.Has anyone else thrown their back out of whack so to speak from drumming over the years? Or was this friend of mine just a rare case of oddness?

Sounds like your friend visits the chiropractor more than regularly. I go in for an adjustment once a month or so. 3 days a week sounds like the schedule of a car accident victim.

Western medicine will question the usefulness or validity of Chiropractics. I feel better after my visit, so I've achieved the goal I expect.

Yes, three times a week is exactly what I was told by my chiropractor back in 1989 after being rear-ended in a car accident.  After a few months of that, it was reduced to once a week, then a couple months later just monthly maintenance seemed fine.  What they do is adjust your spine and neck hands-on.  I was very leery of chiropractic care at first, as I fear doctors.   However, the adjustment felt so good, involving massage, manipulation of the tissue, adjustment/alignment of the neck and back, etc.  Now I love going.

It sounds scary, but after a few adjustments, I realized that EVERYONE should go, even if you have no accident or injury---you spine can be out of adjustment just from sitting, raking, running, tripping, etc.  Back when I had my car accident I played bass guitar, and the bass hanging on one shoulder three times a week was killing me, even without the car accident.  Chiropractic totally helped this.  Sitting at a desk all week was killing my day-job co-workers, and chiropractic helped them too.  Many athletes went to my chiropractor as well, and so I realized:

It is not just drumming, but living that is stressful!

A good chiropractor will tell you that exercise is important too, not just adjustments.  My favorite part of the adjustment was the massage before...  You may benefit from massage alone, in fact, I cant say enough good about massage, whether you are old, young... it's not just for boxers in old black & white movies!!
