Hi all!  My first post!!  I've got a question about the badges on Yamaha drums.  I'd like know if anyone here  knows how the code works for figuring out the model of the drum by looking at the badge.  For example,  I know "FT516  6K" means that its a floor tom (verses TT for tom tom or BD for bass drum) with a diameter of 16" and I think the 5 indicates the series (recording custom , tour custom, etc.).

Does anyone have this information or know of a website that does?  I also want to know if the code changes depending on where the drum was made.  Thanks in advance.

I was hoping someonce here would know about this because I'm afraid of the Yamaha Corp.  Tongue   My past experience with Yamaha's customer service has led me to believe that they're just way too huge to provide answers to questions from a lowly consumer like myself.

Thanks for the info, though.  I may contact them if I can't find anything else out.

Peace.

I guess I don't understand your question. Is there a specific thing you want to know about Yamaha drums?

Here's their contact info:

Maybe they've tapped your phone line, read your posts here and know what you're thinking right now!

I guess I wasn't clear before... I have a bunch of miscellaneous yamaha drums from the late eighties/early nineties and I want to figure out what series they came from.  One of the numbers on the badge corresponds to the series, but I don't know which digit that is, nor do I know which series corresponds to which number.  Ack!  I hope that makes sense.  I guess this information is not as commonly known as I assumed it to be.

Does anyone here play a Yamaha Rock Tour set that has the square gold badges?

I do.

Here's a list of what Yamaha made for the Rock Tour Custom series...

Bass Drums

18" X 26" - RBD-826T
16" X 24" - RBD-824
18" X 24" - RBD-824T
14" X 22" - RBD-822
18" X 22" - RBD-822T

Floor Toms

16" X 18" - RFT-818
16" X 16" - RFT-816

Tom Toms

14" X 16" - RTT-816
13" X 15" - RTT-815
12" X 14" - RTT-814
14" X 14" - RTT-814T
11" X 13" - RTT-813
13" X 13" - RTT-813T
10" X 12" - RTT-812
12" X 12" - RTT-812T
10" X 10" - RTT-810
8" X 8"     - RTT-808

Once Yamaha discontinues a series, that's it. End of story. I doubt you'll get anyone on the phone that will want to talk to you about them or any other discontinued series. (Thats a gripe of mine about Yamaha)

Check out the link below. It may help you with your remaining drums.

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/drum/adrum/

Just click on the links in the middle of the page. I know, they're in Japanese but you can make out the series and part numbers along with the sizes.

Good luck.
