Chad Smith in the Making!

« on: May 26, 2004, 09:10 AM »

Well I have had this pain for a long time in my right wrist mostly sometimes in my left but im sick of it and it needs to leave. Also I have a new one in my right knee hurts right about the knee cap.

I have been to the doctor he said its tendonitis and I think  a cobination of bad technique, and using the computer. Im a computer adictit! What can I say i love looking at drum stuff on the net. Can sombody help me out her, and I do have a teacher.

On my knee I have no idea what to do. Can anyone suggest the best way to go with having an egonimical(sp) setup?

Help?

once agian streaching may help you. but of course ask your dr.
wqhen streaching breath deep using your diaphram and ease into the streach. hold it for ten or twenty breaths and ease back out. never bounce when streaching and never snap out of a deep streach.
streaching increases blood flow to the extremities and alows nutrients to reach the mucels

An over-the-counter anti-inflamatory may help. Before you do any exercises, you should probably warm up the affected areas, ie; placing hands and wrists in barely tolerable hot water for a few minutes to "soften" your ligaments.

me, personally, i will try more shock absorbent sticks, the zilj. antivibes, after my carpal tunnel surgery and am also completely redesigning my whole set up.  most importantly, i'm going to be bringing everything down lower (will probably trigger an 18" bass) and will bring everything in closer to me (dr. dutch, at the ergonomics seminar, recommended placing my ride where my floor tom is).  i will also invest in a better throne, and closely examine my snare positioning and hand technique, so that i'm not overextending or exceeding my natural range of motion.  I'm a french gripper---I'm not so sure this is the best thing.

mr. a  and bart have posted some great things about ergonomics.  i recommend doing a search here.

oh ya, you may want to invest in an ergonomic keyboard.

also, i would recommend sending bart a video of your playing ( http://community.drummercafe.com/index.php?board=19;action=display;threadid=3961 )
so he can evaluate your positioning.  that, or get a lesson with a good local teacher.
