This is the situation, my old band used to use a portable MP3 player (dont know brand) to record our practice sessions for quick referance to new material we would come up with on the fly. The recordings would come out pretty decent from this little MP3 players built in mike. Myself & our bass player left the band to start our own project and we now are in need of an MP3 player or something relitivly cheep ($200 or less) to use to record our practice sessions in MP3 format so that I can e-mail them to each band member to review and help in our writing.
Can anyone suggest a decent MP3 Player / Recorder that has a decent recording mike that we can use in our basement studio to record quick MP3's? OR is there something on the music market that is made for this type of recording NOT requiring Additional mike imputs, is portable and gives you a pretty decent recording that can record at least 60-90 min. of music and be uploaded to a computer?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Like I said it will only be used to record practice sessions to e-mail the guys a copy so they have something to listen to in order to increase the depth of a songs and come up with additional fills / leads etc. and have it to practice to in our off time.....
Thanks!

Ya know...this might be overkill...but you might consider one of the Dell Axim Pocket PCs. You might be able to get one for 200 bucks...and you could also use it for all kinds of other things too...from taking notes to writing lyrics to...well...keeping a tally of who shows up to practice on time Smiley  Anyway...I have one of these and love it (mine has wireless). I've never tried recording live music on it...so I can't attest to it's quality...but it sure is convenient...and has a headphone jack too. Makes a great MP3 player as well...I have several memory sticks with all kinds of stuff on them.

I second that, I have a friend who uses one with a condenser mic, and it sounds great. Not studio quality of course, but very clear and pure.

I wish there was a mic input on iPods.

check out the archos gmini 120.  usually around $200 and has 20GB capacity (approx. 400 hours)  records in WAV and MP3.  recording quality is pretty good for it's size and value. also, works well in recording low volume concerts
