i've discovered i can play with the same skill, even with my thumb injury.  i play with the left stick between my index and middle fingers, with the butt against my palm.  i find i can play bounce rolls and everything like this.  anyone else ever have to play like this?  any other grip styles i should try?

Footnote:  i injured my thumb at work.  third day on the job (dishwasher) i was about to leave and was putting away the last rack of dishes.  i picked up a food processor, which slid out of my hand, up into the air.  it fell (with agonizing slowness) to cut into the side of my left thumb.  it cut a gash about half the length of my thumb and about a quarter inch deep, cutting through two blood vessels on its way.  i went to the doctor, where they decided to numb it and remove flap of skin.  to do this they had to numb me.  now, i don't like needles in the first place, but when the stuck one in my thumb i nearly threw up.  i got workman's comp and i won't work (at that job) for a week.

Maybe you should try a "traditional" grip. You really don't have to use your thumb in that one.
