Just wondering what is the most popular brand of congas used by the members here and if you could choose your "dream set", What would they be? I play Meinl Pros , Quinto, Conga, & Tumba. My dream Set would be a set of LP 35th Anniversery drums.

I play LP Aspires. Aint fancy, but do the job for the little I use them. Dream set, Gon Bops. Ive tried Sol and Gon Bops side by side, and the GBs just gave me more pitter pat. No dig to Sol by any means. Just wanted to nip a potention "have you tried Sol?" in the bud before I got one

It's all in the skins, IMO ... the LP stock water buffalo heads on my LP Classics weren't anywhere near as nice as their cowhide replacements.

Onstage I play Bauer congas ( from Brazil ). For outdoor casual (beach, park, party) I play an old gon bop I rebuilt. " Dream set" ? Fat congas in cherry wood, alternate dream is the Sol mahogany. I don't think I can beat my Bauers for sound though......

I mostly play Gon Bops, a quinto and a tumba, with a Valje conga sometime if I feel like hauling a third. In my dreams, I play Gon Bops too, all three matching. By the way Windhorse, those are some beautiful drums.

I have LP Aspires, and at the church I play LP Perfomers, not too much difference. I tried LP Classic at the store, again not too much different to me. I think I am not a good or expirienced enough player yet to appriciate a good set but I would like to try a Gon Bobs or Sol or Fat congas or other botique drums some time.

I play LP Patato model. In fact all my percussion is pretty much LP. I use JCR cowbells (a Bronx, NY company). I think most people in the notheast use LP, LP used to be right in Garfield, NJ about 2 towns over from me. LP was sold to Kaman Music a few months ago. Check out my site. http://members.aol.com/pauldperc

Oi!
I play the Giovanni LP series. I like them but they were too expensive!
I do like the Fat and Sol lines. Yeah man, Windhorse... sweet drums!
Bcero... how do you like the Bauers? I play Bauer surdos, caixa, repinique, etc. but I haven't had the chance to play Bauer congas.
Cheers, -John

How do I like the Bauers? I love my Bauers! They are super fat so they resonate for a long time, the skins on the 11", 11.75" and 12.5" are very thick cow the 9.75" has a thinner skin. The tone is very clear with almost no overtones. Bauer took over "Raul" percussion a few years ago, adding congas and bongos to their line.

I play a pair of USED matador Conga's 12 inch conga 13 inch tumba.
In the fall and winter i put on the fiberskin man made heads from LP.
They are great when playing outdoor shows . they dont suck up all the water in the air.. and project better than calfskin.
Ive sanded these down and stained the wood purple.. The original color was a dark maroon and covered with dents..

I have a set of Pearl congas (standard quinto, conga, tumbadora) that really surprised me with their quality. I had some LP Aspires. ::shivers::
That said, my dream congas are easy to name: the LP Giovanni Hidalgo series.
