I use the EMAD system on my 22" Gretsch bass drum. The problem I'm having is the damponing ring (I use the thin one) keeps slipping out from the holding ring. I find it coming out about 20-30 min. into a practice session and have also had it fall out totally during a gig. Does anyone have a tip to keep the ring in place without adversly affecting the tone of the drum? This is begining to be a PIA, I like the skin but having to worry about that ring coming loose is starting to interfear with my playing...Thanks ! Grin

I know this is not what you want to hear but I would send the head back for another one. I use emads and have never had this problem. It sounds like the head is deffective.

It happened on every single EMAD I ever bought.  Finally quit using them.

But to answer your question, I used gaffers tape to hold the dumb ring in place.  Not a fan.

... and you just demonstrated why i dont use the EMAD anymore.  Undecided

but you could try getting some grey insulation foam from your neighborhood hardware store, and stick a few pieces inside to jam the ring against the head.  but that only adds more muffling.

OR, best bet is to just switch to an Aquarian Super Kick I.  IMHO, they sound similar, tho i think the SK sounds rounder.  and you dont have to worry about the permanent felt ring ever falling off.

I've never had that problem with my EMAD, and I've had the same head on for over 6months.  It could be a defective part, it could be that I have a good head.  Not sure, but I've heard very few complaints regarding the EMAD rings.

I (and several others) feel your pain.
