Well, I broke my left wrist in three places and I now have three pins protruding through a blue cast that runs clear above my elbow (atv accident). In 5 weeks, the pins get pulled and another cast goes on. No idea how long after that. Has anybody gone through this and does it ever heal properly so that you can play without pain? I drum open handed so my left gets the majority of the work with the hats and ride.

The doctor stated that I could have gone without the pins (i'm a coward when it comes to surgery) but I would eventually develop terrible arthritis and it wouldnt heal correctly. I almost did, but my drumming kept coming to mind and I only do it for fun. I'm sure I made the right choice, but I seriously thought about it for awhile.

The main thing you can do is take an active role in the rehabilitation process.
Listen to the therapist and do your home exercise program.

aw, man.  bless your heart.  that sucks.  hope you get better really, really soon!

i met one of my heroes <george lynch Cool> last month, and he said i needed some rockin splints with skulls or something on them, so i bought this killer flames patch and superglued it on my right splint.  now everytime i look at it i get warm fuzzies.  Cheesy

nudrum's got good advice. Only thing Iwould add is to make sure you eat well and correctly. If you smoke this might be a good time to quit. When the cast comes off (and ,one day , it will) do the rehab and take care of yourself. I broke my wrist in 1989. I was gigging with my left hand in a cast. I did Dixieland gigs with a 2nd bass drum. I rigged it up with springs and bells and used it like a snare. This is a good time to learn left foot clave. all the best for you! Peace, leo

HEHE No ReallY!! I did Stick Control and Morello's book, assigning either of my feet to the broken hand part, while I playe dsome kind of ostinato on the other foot.  Keep working the other three limbs. The busted one will come back. Blood supply to the wrist is notoriously bad, so eating , sleeping and staying healthy is really important. I DIDN'T do it that way and it took forever to get the cast off. (back in the day*sigh*) As far as the rehabbing goes, it's like driving in snow, go slow and you'll get there. Good luck, peace, leo

I had a similar wrist break about 8 years ago, and I was back to 100% after about 6 months.
