2012 NAMM Sandwich

In this 5-Minute Lesson, I explain and demonstrate my approach to using and playing the chimes or tubular bells in special situations, like in a pit orchestra, when only one or two pitches are actually needed.

Rather than trying to haul an entire set of chimes into the pit, especially when I only need one or two pitches, I like to remove the pitches I need from the rack. This allows me to play individual tubes by either holding it with one hand while striking it with the other, or mounting the tube by hanging it from a double-braced boom cymbal stand and playing it with either hand.
