Hi, i just buy a Drum Set Tambourine ( http://www.music123.com/Rhythm-Tech-DST-Drum-Set-Tambourine-With-Nickel-Jingles-i58657.music ) , and if i place it on the stem of Hi Hat rather then use the fixation does can cause damage to the stem ?

I like to use sixteen notes 2 handed on Tambourine and i wonder if some of you have experience about place a tambourine on stem on Hi Hat

Thank's ;)

I have used a tambourine on the HH rod for a long time with no danage to the rod.  I know in the past some friends HAVE damaged/bent their rods though (I hate when that happens).

I guess it all depends how hard and how much you will be playing it.

I also use one once in a while.  I haven't damaged my hi hat rod yet.

I guess if you beat the you know what out of it all night, you run the risk of damage, but I find that striking it like I strike a cymbal, it's all good as they say.  :)

I have the same model, but in black. However, mine came with the clamp and mount (and a cowbell) that mounts to a stand. I would recommend purchasing that, since it appears to be an "option" on your item. Based on what it seems you want to do with it. I think you need more "support" than the hi-hat rod (even though they say it can be used that way. Will take up a fair amount of space too above the hats). If you plan on "playing" the hi-hat pedal and have this move up and down for an effect, I would suggest a Rhythm Tech Hat Trick or Jingle Rings instead .

I have the mounted tambo and Double Hat Trick, but hardly use either any more as my current band is all original and I have not found a "use" for them as of late.

I agree with earlier comments. If you plan to play it, mount it on an extension clap of some type off the HiHat stand or elsewhere. If you just want the jingle effect when you close the HH, that's when I'd mount it on the HH rod.

The only time I would mount the Tambourine on the HiHat rod is when I plan to sound the jingles by playing the HiHat with my foot. If I'm going to use sticks on the Tambourine, I typically mount the Tambourine to a stand of some sort.

You CAN mount the Tambourine on the HiHat rod AND play the Tambourine with drumsticks, but as you suspected, there's a risk of damaging the HiHat rod. I perform with this set-up, but I'm very careful to not lay into the Tambourine when I play it.

If you really want to strike the Tambourine while mounted on the HiHat rod, try sliding the Tambourine down as close to the HiHat clutch as possible ... to prevent accidental bending of the HiHat rod.

Some may say it won't bend ... but I've SEEN it happen ... so be careful.

P.S. I often times have two mounted Tambourines; one on a stand, and the other on the HiHat rod (as needed).

Bart, you're just one big pile of knowledge

I have a cowbell and a block, and am purchasing a drum kit tambourine this week. I've decided to purchase a multi-clamp that attaches to a cymbal stand and holds all the devices in one compact space. As mentioned above, any device secured to the rod can damage it. Why take the chance?

I wouldn't put anything heavier than a ching-ring type of tambourine on the pull rod.  I have that heavier stuff clamped to a cymbal stand.  I figure anything heavy can potentially bend the top rod (as stated by others) over time, but I also don't want the added weight of a tambourine/cowbell messing up my hi-hat foot response.
