Writing cheat sheets

I can probably think of ten different ways to write down what to play in a song, but not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I'd like to ask you what kind of notation you use? Do you use the lyrics, write regular music sheets, split the song into parts and write different patterns to those, just play by memory / ear or what?
