I'm looking to buy my first djembe. I want to spend between 150 and 200 on one. any suggestions?  I need to get one online so i need a good website too.  I don't have any music stores anywhere in the area.  I want one around 24 inches or so high.  Any help would be great!!  Jeff

Search the Drummer Cafe forum, more specifically here in the Percussion Parlor, for suggestions. This topic has been covered quite a few times.

As far as purchasing online ... many people choose to support the Drummer Cafe by purchasing from  http://www.kqzyfj.com/mg101uoxuowBDGFECCFBDCFKIEKD]Musician's Friend  through this site by clicking on the banner on the left.

You can also check out more traditionally made drums by purchasing from the  http://www.africandrumstore.com/?Click=14]African Drum Store  (follow the link to support the Drummer Cafe). I've reviewed one of their drums here at the Drummer Cafe (http://www.drummercafe.com/reviews/gear/west-african-djembe.html) if you want to learn more about their instruments. The djembe I reviewed is not the top of the line but a decent beginner djembe. For a little more money you can get a very nice instrument.

go for one of the remos. they are very popular. the big advantage is they can be tuned with a drum key. traditional djembes are tuned with rope and it's not easy if you dont know what youre doing.

remos cost in your range. they are everywhere these days, and while they dont sound exactly like a real djembe, they are good enough.

check out x8drums.com.  They have alot of rope tuned, solid djembes at reasonable costs
