love it! i dig when people do something that's actually helpful.

emily remler had an instructional video years back where she had all the notation laid out on the bottom of the screen. it scrolled so you could play along. the video effect was a bit homespun (this was the late 80s and the notation was handwritten), but from a utilitarian standpoint, it was very useful.

nice find.

Cool video and clearly a lot of work to make. I found it oddly surreal, and at first couldn't put my finger on why it was kind of uncomfortable to watch. And then I realize, having the music appear just as it happens, is completely foreign to the experience of reading music. When reading music, you are never looking at the note you're playing, but rather many notes ahead.

In other words for someone who reads music, musical notation going by like this in real time, is never a document of what is happening or has happened, but rather a roadmap of what lies ahead.

I found this video fascinating but it did kind of give me a headache, likely for the reasons David Crigger described. That's not meant to be negative, though - I love the concept.

It's amazing what something as inspiring as John Coltrane's recording of Giant Steps can inspire in others.

Here's something more abstract along the same lines you might enjoy as well. My young boys love it:

Enjoy!
