Charlie Callas - R.I.P.
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:36 PM »
Comedian, actor and drummer, Charlie Callas died yesterday, January 27th, 2011 at the age of 86.

Charlie was born December 20, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. He was most commonly known for his work with Mel Brooks, Jerry Lewis, and Dean Martin, an openning act for Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones, and had numerous stand-up appearances on 70's TV variety shows hosted by the likes of Johnny Carson, Jackie Gleason, Ed Sullivan, Merv Griffin, Flip Wilson and Andy Williams.

I'll always remember Callas' rubbery face, quick wit and impeccable delivery. Always loved seeing him do his bit behind the drums; lots of memorable moments.

Rest in peace, Charlie... and thank you.

Yeah, he was always great to see. Really funny guy and a really good drummer to boot. I think he started his career on drums and then became a comedian. His kit was very BR.

Always a great drummer.  You forgot to mention his NUMEROUS Mike Douglas show appearances. He also made it into a couple comedy movies.
