Reasons:

  • It seems to help one play as many notes as possible in the shortest amount of time.
  • Look cool ... which is the most important attribute in drumming.
  • Secure future sales because no one else is making triangle shaped drumheads.

Remember, the faster you play, the harder it is to hear the quality of the drum sound ... or the lack thereof.  Is he trying to hide something? ;)

Bart - I'd click a "like" on your response.  ;)

Way back in the mid 70's, at a drums shop in Portland, Oregon I sat down at an Electronic set that had triangular shaped pads which I really liked.  The pads fit together a lot closer than round ones so the whole set felt very compact and rolling across from drum to drum was smooth.  I've never seen one again so I guess the set didn't take off.

Reminds me of those old german Trixon drums that looked like they were melting into the floor.
