Elliot Fine (May 7, 1925 - May 4, 2012)

I'm saddened to report that legendary percussionist, educator and author, Elliot Fine passed away on Friday, May 4th, having fought a long and brave battle with cancer; he was 86.

For those that may not know, Elliot was the co-author (along with Marv Dahlgren) of  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0769233708/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=drummercafe-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0769233708]4-Way Coordination: A Method Book for the Development of Complete Independence on the Drum Set .

I first met Elliot at PASIC 2010, thanks to David Stanoch who brought Elliot along for the convention in Indianapolis, IN.

The last interview I did with Elliot, along with David Stanoch and Allen Herman is available HERE.

Rest in peace, Elliot ... and thank you.

Larry Rankine

Certainly a great loss to the drumming community.  RIP Mr. Fine.

David Stanoch

Greetings and thank you to all who have remembered Elliot and passed along their condolences. It is greatly appreciated by his family and myself.

Elliot was one of a kind and will be greatly missed but his spirit will live forever in the hearts of the countless people who were influenced by him and who loved him.

Anyone interested can read and sign his obituary here:

Today (Monday, May 7th, 2012) would've been Elliot's 87th birthday. Happy Birthday, pal. I'll miss you.

Another nice article about Elliot from the Startribune:

Nice to have some words from Elliot's son, Milo.

Also cool to have the Drummer Cafe mentioned in the article as well.

Bart -

The "Strib" (as we call it) writer left a message on my home phone voice mail yesterday after I'd left home for the day and when I returned his call he said he had already spoken to Milo "and another fellow," and submitted his story. I thanked him for doing the story and was so pleased to see you quoted in this piece, bravo!

Here is another nice rememberence from my friends at Modern Drummer:

One thing that gives me solace at this time of loss is not only that Elliot's in a better place but that he had the opportunity towards the end of his life to experience the love and admiration that so many had for him and they, in turn, had the chance to experience what an amazing human being he was.

"This loss will be met by a hurricane of love."  (from the movie "Elizabethtown")

4-Way Coordination - it's like Stick Control on steroids!  It's a book that every drummer should have in their library.  And it's time to put it up on the stand and play through it!

Thank you Elliot!
