Kick Mics

dizz:
Found this great kick mic test on Youtube.

About 20 mics were tested.  Listen for yourself

I'd never heard the Avantone before but it sort of stuck out to me (in a good way).  It's one of the affordable mics too  Maybe because the mic just before it sounded like tin but, it seemed to have a nice thump in the 100Hz range or so

I'm going to go back and check them out with earbuds to hear those lows better.  A video like this can only go so far as to tell you about a mics performance and properties but you can at least narrow the spectrum some.

Lol near the end of the video the drummer seemed to be getting tired.

Jon E:
Call me a tin ear, but for the most part they all sound fine to me.  A couple stuck out as different, but they were all OK in my book--even the one I use (thankfully).  Heck, even the SM57 seemed usable. I am no sound engineer, so my opinion might not mean much, but I think goes to show that the mic might not be the end all for getting a good kick sound.  Right? 8)

I noticed the guy getting tired too.

dizz:
Yeah the 57 didn't sound much different than anything else to my surprise, too.

Bill Bachman:
I'm happy that my three favorites are the ones I own, beta 52, audix D6 and D4. I was ready to have buyer's remorse and end up covetous over something else.

Scott Hutton:
I'm a D6 fan but it was cool to hear all of these different mics and compare
