JAZZ COMP SCROLLING CHALLENGE
Work your way through these sixteen levels to exercise your jazz comping independence and sight-reading skills.
Place your phone or tablet on your high tom or you laptop where convenient to see the screen, plug in some headphones/earphones and play each progressive level by swinging all the 8th notes (played on the snare) while playing the jazz ride 'spang-a-lang' pattern with your other hand and stepping 2 and 4 on the hihat.

How far did you get?

To help increase your knowledge and skill of jazz drumming I highly recommend working through all of John Riley's books and engaging the services of a good local teacher.
Please share this resource with your pupils and other drummers.

This challenge comprises eight scrolling ticker tapes each filmed at two tempos (slow and medium speed).

it has been a few weeks now that it has been up and i'm getting a lot of response from pupils - has anyone here been using these as a learning tool. i know quite a few have just glanced at them or sat tapping their desk along to them but has anyone actually sat down behind their kit and had a proper go?

I think most of our crowd here at the Drummer Cafe prefers to use the book(s) of their choice (eg. Syncopation) and a metronome.

This is pretty interesting - I'm using the higher level ones to test how quickly I can react to sight reading. Cheers for this - using this as a practice and teaching tool  :)
